When can we use a quad core pi zero as the accelerator what about an art package and what about the pi zero emulating the vdp9990 at least?
Heard this on b3ta..... what is probably over a decade ago now 😮
Fascinating!
Enigma = Lector in From Russia With Love
Fond memories of these, one system had an attached non-DEC tape drive. I worked alongside a guy called Denis, known to all as Den - he (or we) could put in a 6250 tape and the LCD on the front would say "HI DEN", always made me chuckle
Love to see that Dennis Nedry is still in the business ❤ keep up the good job. Hope you make one video on the refrigerated can sometimes.
There's a great sim on Enigma World Code group. Got a digital copy of an original k buch for the m4 model. Silent Hunter 3 has never been so realistic since learning to use it.
Podule, a village in central Poland, population 185.
This video is quite relaxing to listen to, especially every time he says "podules".
Is there a cash prize in the tournament? When & where is the next one?
So many legends in one video! Thank you for all!
"Hey, is it because of your shitty childhood that you became a game designer?" jesus fucking christ, fuck off
thankyou, really enjoyed listening, ive learnt a lot.
Would be nice to see interviews with the actual creators rather than this book promo. I cant recommend the book either, it was so full of errors I returned it.
This is so cool
What an omission. Lacking knowledge of a continent. It needs more training.
Put elite on!!
Why does he prefer a simple design? a simple design is boring
I was initially confused what Lyons was referring to, as a lot of places have a Lions Club and I thought it was that: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lions_Clubs_International
Tape drive in a draw may sound clever, and it takes up less space. But when the tech has to figure out why a tape will not load they lose their first most valuable troubleshooting tool, observation ! PDP-11/45 was my favorite machine to work on as a tech. And knowing it as well as I do provided me with a fun career. DEC BADGE # 7636. By the way, I have a DEC magtape of the ASCII images from 1974 or so. Don't know which computer museum to send it to. Including Spock holding the Enterprise model.
Didn't understand any of this but still enjoyed it!🙂

Born in late '81 and I can just about recall using a BBC micro in school. There was a game and I can't remember the name - I think it involved hexagons or cells that you needed to capture or invade. Hopefully that rings a bell for someone. The computer that really sticks in my mind was the Archimedes. A favourite memory of mine was of our primary school head teacher showing us the game Lemmings .
This brought me unfound joy to listen to.
What a wonderful personal story and background told by Ed Smith. Until now I had never neard about him and his wonderful achievements. Thank you.
I heard of Brooklyn in the early '60s and was glad I lived near open fields.
I paid $3000 to get a 5 mb hard drive for my PET. I now have 5 mb files
This is the most underrated channel I am always glad to remember that I'm subscribed to :)
Even the UI is perfect, even its modern version still uses the same principle.
Didn't the graph showing the 10 month break in reading u-boat codes/transmissions and tonnage sunk correspond to a huge increase in u-boat construction and commisioning? Can someone explain how enigma/lorentz code breaking knocked 2 years off of the war, its often parroted but never with a follow up explanation.
Its self explanatory really. If you know your enemy's intentions, dispositions and inner workings while he in return does not know your's then you are at a HUGE advantage.
My understanding of our slow rail system is mostly due to freight trains using the same tracks.

Oh my God Roger Wilson!
One of the most gripping things I've seen on UA-cam If not THE most gripping.
what a nice guy with fun and interesting stories. that headteacher persona conceals the heart of a mischief-maker
Not sure why he kept using "added" when he mean "EORed". It's a computing audience and he not shy about using no more obscure terms like Chi-1 Chi-2, so why not just use EOR after explaining what a binary EOR operation is? Using the term "adding" easily confuses casual listeners.
Ol Henry is keeping them company.
Great video! Lovely to see you guys going through the options like normal people would do. Cobra was a good game based on the Stallone film. Didn't have much to do with the film though.
Truly fascinating ❤
does anybody know how to program this game demo i got from a magazine?? its called high noon and its around about 5 or 6 pages long - i cant code it properly because some of the numbers and digits are not printed clearly ?? can any1 help me out here please ? thanks........
Thank you for share!
Not only is this a fantastic, captivating piece of computer/wartime cryptanalysis, this guy is such a great technical communicator its almost possible to not realise how clear, terse effortless, succinct and cogent his communication style is. This was a true pleasure to listen to every syllable of this story. Everything was perfect: diction, dialogue, delivery, pacing, volume, technical explanations sparse but brilliant use of diagrams and photos, etc, etc, etc. A communication tour-de-force! BRAVO!!! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful effort!
2:16 i think i know the fan art that he's talking about. I love that drawing too. It's called "Remote mines in the Complex" by Zac Gorman. He does comics on a website called Magical Game Time
Currently in this chapter in Hackers !
All these ‘shortened the war by two years’ claims that circulate are bunk. They forget there were three wars being fought. The one all across the globe that millions were involved in and killed tens of millions. And the two that started in 1945. An enriched uranium bomb war. And a plutonium bomb war. The war in Europe was never going to go to spring 1947. If Germany had dominated central and western Europe in late summer 1945 the uranium and plutonium wars would have destroyed the cities of Germany in the fall of 1945.

Can you attach a physical floppy disk drive to it ?
If you want to, you can connect original hardware like floppy interfaces, or even the Interface 1 + Micro Drives to the expansion port. It's a bit fiddly and runs with restrictions as you have to disable features of the Spectrum Next to run the original hardware. Not sure if all existing interfaces are supported "out of the box" especially when they are powered via the expansion port. As mentioned, this may be fiddly. But it's fun to make it run... If you just want to access data you can mount disk images with NextZXOS or even access the whole file system of the SD Card using ".-commands" or NextBASIC or an API. Depends on what you want to do with the system. - This is much more comfortable "nowadays" and my way accessing data today... ;-) P.S. (edit): Loading data from .tap files, .z80, tzx, ... and even disk images can be handled using the browser as shown in the video. Read- and write access is possible in most of the cases.
